SYDENHAM CENTRE MOSAIC INSTALLATION BEGINS

Having spent over a week redecorating the huge windows and entrance area to the Sydenham Centre on Sydenham Road South London we can now begin the work of installing the mosaic roundals and all the tile-work surrounds.

SITE - FIRST DAY - Building seems bigger than I remember

KMD Ashford cut and deliver the aluminium discs onto which we bonded the mosaic roundels

Three of the eleven roundels ready to go - These are 1.5m diameter, so quite heavy!

Curvy tiling starts on the top deck of our three tier scaffolding.  Roundels will be installed this week.

LAST ROUNDEL FOR SYDENHAM COMPLETED

I have just completed the final panel for the Sydenham Centre mosaic.  All being well we should be on site to install this work later this month.

KENNETH BUDD'S CHARTIST MOSAIC UNDER THREAT AGAIN!!

News has reached us that a new developer is making overtures for the re-development of John Frost Square in Newport South Wales.

As many who know our work will realise this could mean the destruction of the Chartist mosaic.  Completed in 1978 this is a narrative work running along the complete length of a subway entering the square and featuring marching Chartists on their way to the showdown at the Westgate hotel.

All the figures are life-size and effectively as you walk along the subway you "march" with the Chartists.

I've always considered this one of my father's greatest works, please click on the link below to view a short intro I recorded in support of this work remaining intact and in-situ in Newport.

PENULTIMATE PANEL FOR SYDENHAM COMPLETED

The Queen's Hall roundel for the Sydenham Centre has now been completed in the studio.

It features the cinema building that was bombed during the Second World War.  This is now the exact location of the centre and our new mosaics.

It features Boris Karloff as doorman and mummy! (one-time resident of Sydenham), logos for the arts festival and International Music Festival.  Flags above the building proclaim Norman Long and Leslie Howard, two more residents.
